One of the lovely visitors to our Points Of The Compass show at Craft Central recently, was photographer Vic Phillips, who took a liking to our style as it fits very nicely with his own. Here’s a selection of the photographs he took of us and our work during the exhibition. Vic’s Facebook page has more vintage inspired portraits and wedding photos with lovely retro styling.

Bunting Stories

Xtina makes bunting as all sorts of wedding, birthday, Christmas and bedroom decorations, and it’s fantastic to sometimes get a photo back of the banners being used in their new homes.

Earlier this year Lucy bought some bunting with lucky motifs and promptly emigrated with it. She sent this great photo with the message “Just to say thank you for getting the gorgeous bunting to me in time before we flew. We moved into our Chicago apartment with nothing but an inflatable bed, a duvet and your bunting, it was the perfect instant decoration and has indeed brought us much luck.

Greg got in touch in September with the delightful idea of commissioning custom alphabet bunting to help him propose to his girlfriend Cathy. He chose the style that threads onto tape with a hem, so that he could assemble the letters himself and build a sense of anticipation! Plus the bonus of being able to rearrange them into amusing anagrams afterwards. Thankfully Cathy is now his fiancé, and Greg sent this photo with the news “Just to let you know that I finally asked and she said “yes”! Your bunting worked a treat. Everyone was very impressed!“. Phew! What a great idea, who could resist a proposal written in bunting, and someone sweet enough to think of it?

Lucky bag tote and shopping bags by Xtina LambXtina has printed up a small batch of bags with the same motifs as her Lucky Bunting. The unbleached cotton bags come as a light weight tote with long handles, or a thicker canvas weight with shorter shopping bag style handles. Screen printed in red, black and green with symbols including a horseshoe, back cat and wishbone on the front, and a four leaf clover on the back. Great for carrying off the best boot fair treasure, or bagging the very last packet of chocolate hob nobs in the supermarket.

Available tomorrow Sat 16th April at the fab Crafty Fox Market in Brixton (The Dogstar), where the lucky first person to buy one will get a bonus gift.

Seaside Sisters have a stall and are running a drop in workshop where you can hand sew one of these lovely fabric brooches from vintage fabrics.

Vintage inspired Christmas bunting

November 26, 2010 at 10:50 pm | Posted in Events, Products | 2 Comments

Xtina has drawn ten new motifs for Christmas bunting, cards and wrapping paper. With a vintage look inspired by 40s and 50s illustrations, they make the perfect festive decorations for a stylish Christmas.

Christmas bunting in two colour ways

There’s a choice of two colour ways for the bunting: red and greens making a nod to Scandinavia, or a subtle mix of lavenders and greens that look Christmassy without being too traditional.

Christmas cards screen printed with the same motifs are available on recycled card in pretty colours, paired with recycled envelopes. Sheets of wrapping paper with a repeat version of the designs, are litho printed in vegetable inks on recycled FSC certified paper.

A few unique editions of the bunting printed onto vintage fabrics will also be available at the Eco Design Christmas Fair in Islington.

Printed Wonders bunting (£25), cards (£3) and wrapping paper (£2.50) are available at:

Horrockses & Pat Albeck talk

The Fashion and Textile Museum in Bermondsey has a great exhibition on at the moment, celebrating Horrockses Fashions: Off the Peg Style in the ’40s and ’50s. Seaside Sisters are in love with the patterned prints and tailoring of this era, and we’re excited to be attending the talk by Horrockses designer Pat Albeck on Friday 24th September.

The exhibition runs until 24th October 2010, and the museum is open Wednesday – Sunday.

If you go along, check out Bermondsey Fayre a short walk down Bermondsey Street at number 212, a lovely boutique gallery and shop where Linda is selling her owls, bags and purses. Linda has recently made zodiac purses from an original Pat Albeck designed fabric, and these are available from Bermondsey Fayre and Covet in Islington.

Vintage fabric shoulder bags

Vintage material shoulder bagsXtina has made a fine selection of shoulder bags that will go a treat with Autumn fashions. She’s been working with some very pretty pre-war table cloths and vintage barkcloth curtains, with leafy patterns and green abstracts. A few new fabrics have caught her eye too, and prints with lighthouses, twigs, and camping gear have also been paired up with vintage linings and made up into lovely bags.

The bags have long, strong straps with pretty trims and adjustable vintage sliders – so they can be carried by hand, worn on the shoulder or across the body. An ideal size for carrying all your bits and pieces plus a book or two.

They’re great for cycling, and some have been sewn with reflective tape on the bag and strap. They show up as a bright sash, without without making you look like you’ve come straight from a cycling proficiency course.

£30 – 35 each
Available at Covet, 21 Arlington Way, Islington, London EC1R 1UY
